How To Respond To Any Life Problem

There are only three ways to respond to any problem you will face and two of these are awful and only cause more problems.

The first bad response is to get reactive. Some examples of reactivity might be yelling, stonewalling, blaming, shaming, gossiping, raging. The big problem with getting reactive is that it always causes more problems.

The second bad response is to avoid the problem. There are so many ways to ignore a problem. You could not talk about it. You could numb your feelings with drugs and alcohol. You could deny there is a problem. The big problem with avoiding your problems is that whatever you put off today becomes the chaos of tomorrow.

What is the best way to respond when confronted with a problem? Pause. To pause means to stop and take a moment to get your emotions under control before doing something you regret. All you need to do is say (with a little sarcasm of course), “Pause, what a pleasure”.  What’s the pleasure? Avoid a bad situation and giving yourself time to have a decent response.
